The deadline for this workshop has passed. No new applications are
being accepted.
To Apply
The workshop is grounded in the field of American History but many of the
themes will offer materials for course of study in other topics as well;
consequently, we encourage educators in all disciplines to apply. All K-12
educators from public, private, charter, parochial and home schools are eligible to apply. Other K-12 school personnel, including administrators, substitute
teachers, classroom paraprofessionals, and librarians, are also eligible to
participate, subject to available space. We will look for applicants who have
demonstrated creativity in the classroom and an emphasis on using interdisciplinary
approaches. Our goal is to choose a group of participants who represent a variety of diverse backgrounds. Participants will receive a $500 stipend to
defray the costs of lodging and food. Travel subsidies are available and will be determined on case-by-case bases. Generally those coming from furthest away will received the largest travel subsidies. Stipends and travel subsidies will be paid at the
end of your workshop.
You will need to complete an application, following the instructions outlined
below. As you complete the materials be aware that
perhaps the most important part of the completed application is an essay of up
to one double-spaced page. This essay should include information about your
professional background and interest in the subject of the Not Just a Scenic Road workshop; your special perspectives, skills, or experience that would
contribute to the workshop; and how the experience would enhance your teaching
or school service. You will also need to include a letter of recommendation
from your principal or department head of your institution or in the case of
home school educators from your home schooling association. Have your reference place the recommendation in a sealed envelope and sign across the front.
Please submit 3
hard copies of your application packet.
